Licensing and Condition 3
Hi,
I’m working on a commerical project. In this project, I need to distribute my FreeRTOS project in object form, then I will compile and link some extensions, which are not provided by me;users of my device/app will create them, against my FreeRTOS project. In my FreeRTOS projects, I have some application software which will not be OpenSource. Of course, I’m going to distribute FreeRTOS part of my source code but not the other part. I know that FreeRTOS uses a modified GPL but the 3rd contidition is somehow cloudy for me:
FreeRTOS is under a modified GPL license provided that;
…
3. The combined work is not itself a library intended for linking into other software applications
Does this mean that I can not distribute my project?
Thanks

You are doing the compilation…rather than providing a library that your users will compile against….

This clause is in place to protect the open source nature of the kernel code itself.

Not necessarily – but I need to find out more about your app. We have in the past provided special terms. Can you write to me directly on r (dot) barry [at] freertos.org then we can discuss details a bit more.
